Ian Rush has been full of praise for Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah, but he does not believe the Egyptian has reached the level of his former teammate.
Few would have believed Mohamed Salah would become one of the greatest Liverpool players of all time when he was signed from Roma, just one year after he departed Chelsea after failing to hack it in the Premier League.
However, Salah has been consistently performing at the highest level every season. His lowest goals tally in a single league campaign at Liverpool is 18 and despite coming under harsh scrutiny last season, he still bagged a mind-blowing 29 goals and 18 assists.
Liverpool legend Ian Rush was asked by talkSPORT how much he would have loved to have played alongside Salah and was quick to speak highly of the 33-year-old.
“He’s really, really special. I was lucky I had Kenny Dalglish so I’m not complaining with my partner. But Mohamed, he’s a fantastic player. It would have been a joy to have played with him, he’s looking after my record. But he always says to me, ‘I counted my goals in training’, that’s what he said to me.
It’s a joy to watch and let’s watch him play and whatever happens, happens.”
Rush claimed Salah is Liverpool’s best player in the Premier League era, but he was unwilling to accept he was as good his old teammate, the great Kenny Dalglish.
“Oh, for me, Kenny Dalglish is the greatest player Liverpool have ever seen, you know, it’s something special.
Mo Salah, if you look at him, people talk about the Premier League, you know, just the Premier League, when they talk about individuals they just talk about the Premier League. When they talk about clubs they talk about this establishment, probably 1892.
Mo Salah is for me, the best Premier League player Liverpool have had without doubt, but for me, like I say, the best player Liverpool in my opinion is Kenny Dalglish.”
Salah has scored 187 league goals for Liverpool, whereas Dalglish only scored 118 whilst making more appearances. However, Dalglish leads the way on creativity. The Scotsman bagged 132 First Division assists, which is significantly better than Salah’s 89.
Dalglish is certainly ahead when it comes to club honours won as well, but regardless of this, both Dalglish and Salah will be remembered as two of the all time greats at Anfield.
