Liverpool returned to the AXA Training Centre on Wednesday for the first behind-the-scenes session since their 3-1 win over Arsenal at the end of August.
With the Reds sitting unbeaten so far this season after victories against Bournemouth, Newcastle, and Arsenal, attention is turning to a challenging upcoming schedule, which sees Arne Slot’s side face seven fixtures in just 21 days, including clashes with Atletico Madrid, Everton, Crystal Palace, and Chelsea.
While head coach Arne Slot was absent from the session, a handful of senior players were joined by members of the Under-21 squad, keeping the training lively as the Reds gear up for the Premier League’s return this weekend. Here are three key takeaways from Wednesday’s session.
1) Alexander Isak first session
The headline moment of Wednesday’s session was undoubtedly the presence of Alexander Isak, who trained with his new teammates for the first time since completing his record-breaking summer move from Newcastle United. The Sweden international joined Liverpool on transfer deadline day in a £125m deal, making him the club’s most expensive signing in history.
Isak’s time at Newcastle was non existent during this pre season as he was training solo so with a disjointed pre-season limiting his preparation. During the international break, he only managed 18 minutes across two matches for Sweden, marking his first action since May.
Despite this, Isak returned to Kirkby just two days after representing his country, showing a clear determination to quickly adapt to life at Liverpool and build the fitness required to compete in a demanding Premier League season.
The striker is unlikely to start immediately, with Slot expected to integrate him gradually. He is likely to feature on the bench for Sunday’s clash at Burnley, but Liverpool fans can be optimistic that Isak will be ready to make a full impact ahead of the October international break.
His presence in training alongside the first-team squad is already a statement of intent: the club’s record signing is eager to hit the ground running.

2) JeremieFrimpong returns
Liverpool also received a major boost in the form of Jeremie Frimpong,
He was spotted training for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury during his Premier League debut against Bournemouth. The Netherlands international’s return could strengthen Liverpool’s defensive options during a congested fixture list.
Other senior players involved in the session included Joe Gomez, Federico Chiesa, Curtis Jones, and Freddie Woodman, with Jones appearing in social media footage of the training. Frimpong’s return, alongside these players, hints at a nearly fully fit squad ready to tackle the demanding schedule ahead.

3) Stefan Bajcetic spotted
Midfielder Stefan Bajcetic is making steady progress in his recovery following summer hamstring surgery. The 20-year-old Spaniard, who missed Liverpool’s pre-season due to the injury, was out on the grass running and kicking a ball during Wednesday’s session.
Bajcetic spent the second half of last season on loan at La Liga side Las Palmas, where he gained valuable first-team experience. However, the hamstring injury he suffered towards the end of that loan required surgery during the summer, meaning he missed Liverpool’s pre-season and the early weeks of the current campaign. While he is not yet fully back in first-team training, these steps mark an important stage in his rehabilitation, with hopes he can return to competitive action later this season.
Arne Slot will provide a full update on latest team and injury news during his pre-match press conference on Friday 9am (BST) ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Burnley on Sunday, with particular focus on the integration of Isak and the potential involvement of Frimpong. If the latest training session is anything to go by, the Reds look set to welcome their record signing and several returning players just in time for a critical stretch of fixtures.
