Liverpool have officially confirmed their 24-man squad for the first half of the 2025/26 Premier League season
One of the standout names is Federico Chiesa, who has been left out of Liverpool’s Champions League squad but now secures a place in the Premier League lineup.
The Italian winger is joined by Rhys Williams, Calvin Ramsay and Fabian Mrozek in being named in the domestic ranks despite being overlooked for Europe. Rio Ngumoha and Giovanni Leoni, who both featured in the Reds’ European submission, make way.
Chiesa’s omission from the Champions League squad raised eyebrows earlier this month, but the 27-year-old has been handed the chance to prove himself in the league. With Liverpool still carrying one vacant homegrown berth following the collapse of Marc Guehi’s £35m deadline-day move from Crystal Palace, the club opted to use their overseas slots on Chiesa and Ramsay.
While Williams, Ramsay and Mrozek are expected to continue training primarily with Rob Page’s Under-21s, their inclusion ensures Liverpool remain compliant with Premier League rules, which require at least eight homegrown players in a squad of up to 25 senior players.
Liverpool currently have seven homegrown names in the senior list: Conor Bradley, Jeremie Frimpong, Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones, Freddie Woodman, Rhys Williams and Mrozek. That leaves one space unfilled, highlighting the void Guehi would have occupied had the deal not collapsed at the eleventh hour.
The Under-21 quota, meanwhile, is far less restrictive. Players born on or after January 1, 2004, do not need to be formally registered, meaning the likes of Ngumoha, Leoni, Stefan Bajcetic, Trey Nyoni, Jayden Danns and new summer signings Armin Pecsi and Will Wright remain eligible to feature in the Premier League despite being absent from the senior squad list.
Liverpool’s submission comes at the end of a busy summer. Alexander Isak completed a big-money move from Newcastle United on deadline day, while Harvey Elliott, Kostas Tsimikas and James McConnell all left on loan in search of regular minutes.
Slot’s side have made a flying start to the campaign, winning all three of their opening fixtures to sit top of the table at the international break. That form earned the Dutchman the Premier League Manager of the Month award for August.
