Virgil van Dijk has been asked whether he would prefer to win another Premier League title or the Champions League
Virgil van Dijk is no stranger to winning major trophies. He twice became a champion of Scotland with Celtic and would later go on to win the Champions League, Club World Cup, Premier League and a number of other competitions at Liverpool.
Despite this, Van Dijk never gets bored of winning, although his record does make it difficult to decide which piece of silverware he wants to win the most. After all, there is little novelty about winning a competition which he has already triumphed in.
TNT Sports asked Van Dijk if he would prefer to win back-to-back Premier League titles, or the Champions League and he was unable to give a definitive answer.
He said: “I’m not going to answer that because I would love to win both and that’s what I’m going to fight for this season with my boys.
The interviewer responded by saying Mohamed Salah had answered the question to which Van Dijk responded: “I know, he loves to answer these questions. So I let him do it, do those answers and I’ll stick with the ones that are really, he probably thinks the same as I do by the way.”
It was explained that Salah stated that he wanted to win the Champions League, with Liverpool already winning the Premier League this year.
Van Dijk said: “I know he did because the Premier League he won only a couple of months ago, so ask him maybe in a couple of months time again.
Liverpool are already three points clear at the top of the Premier League after only four matches and many of the experts are expecting another title victory. However, the Champions League is a tougher test. Three of Liverpool’s past five campaigns in the competition have come to an end at the round of 16 stage.
Europe’s most prestigious tournament can be a harsh one. Liverpool won eight matches last season and only lost once. Despite this, they were eliminated at a much earlier stage than Arne Slot would have been happy with.
Liverpool will look to make this season different and bring the trophy back to Merseyside for the first time in seven years and they are off to a good start. The Reds defeated Atletico Madrid 3-2 at Anfield after van Dijk himself scored in stoppage time.
