Danny Murphy has revealed who he believes to be the better player out of Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch and Chelsea’s Moses Caicedo.
Chelsea defeated Liverpool 2-1 at Stamford Bridge last Saturday a last minute winner scored by Estevao. However, it was Moses Caicedo who scored the best goal of the game.
Danny Murphy has heaped praise on the midfielder for his performances and revealed he and two other players are among the best in the Premier League.
Murphy told talkSPORT: “Caicedo has been outstanding. For me, Gravenberch, Rice and Caicedo – those three come to mind straight away. They’ve all got a little bit different attributes.”
Caicedo leads the way for most tackles made in the Premier League. However, Murphy has only recently been convinced by the Ecuadorian and believes he has not been creative enough for Chelsea.
He continued: “Caicedo has kind of changed people’s view a little bit in the last three weeks because he’s scored two worldies against Brentford and Liverpool. I think up until then, his goal tally was pretty dismal.
“A lot of people say he doesn’t create, and he’s not a creative passer – he’s not going to get it out of his feet and split open a defence.”
Murphy has accepted Caicedo is in better form, but he still believes Graveberch is the better player in midfield.
“Gravenberch can do that a bit more; Declan can do that a bit,” he added. “They’ve all got these wonderful qualities; they’re all tenacious and strong.
“Although Caicedo is playing best at the moment, as a holding midfielder, I would still have Gravenberch ahead of him.”
Ryan Gravenberch was an important player for Arne Slot last season. He appeared in all of Liverpool’s Premier League matches, except for another defeat at Stamford Bridge back in May.
The 23-year-old has remained a permanent figure of Liverpool starting lineup, despite the club’s summer additions. He has only missed one league game this season, a 4-2 victory over Bournemouth, and that was due to a suspension.
Gravenberch’s best performance so far was during Liverpool’s most recent victory. He registered a goal and an assist in the Merseyside derby, which Liverpool won 2-1 last month.
The Liverpool star will now turn his attention to the international break, where he will represent the Netherlands in World Cup qualifying. Gravenberch’s national team will travel to Malta before hosting Finland at the weekend.
