It is 10 years to the day since Jurgen Klopp was appointed Liverpool manager and he recently sat down to rate goal celebrations from his time in charge.
Jurgen Klopp discussed various goal celebrations with Bleacher Report, from Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic ‘sui’ stance to dances from his own former players.
The first Liverpool celebration Klopp was shown was of various players surrounding Mohamed Salah, who stood in a yoga pose known as the tree. It was during a 2018/19 clash against Chelsea, which the Reds won 2-0.
Klopp said: “Another great of all time, this is definitely a 10/10, especially when you see the faces of Fabinho, Sadio [Mane] and Bobby [Firmino].”
Another celebration appeared which showed Klopp embracing Allison Becker during a Merseyside derby triumph.
“Yes, I know who scored the goal, I know the reason for that one,” Klopp said. “And it was a little bit embarrassing for me but I couldn’t stop, I couldn’t hold myself like a few times in my life.
“This was 1-0, Divock Origi, 90+4 against Everton, so it was pretty clear we’d win the game and I thought it was a good idea to celebrate with my goalie. You can rate that, but for me it’s a 15/10.”
Klopp was then shown a picture of one of his former strikers whose celebration was one of the most iconic ones around.
Klopp continued: “Yes Daniel Sturridge, another trademark celebration. Very, very much Daniel, it says a lot about him. What he’s doing, he wanted to do something special and he found a way, so 10/10.
Sturridge may not have maintained his consistency over the years at Liverpool, but he left the club straight after receiving a Champions League winners’ medal, which was a nice way for the striker to round things off.
The final Liverpool celebration Klopp was shown was of himself holding a first towards the air and this too earned top marks from the German boss.
“Yeah, that’s not a specific goal celebration, this is after the game,” he said. “My cardiologist always said ‘don’t do that so hard’, but I couldn’t hold myself. Again I don’t want to rate it but for me it felt like a 10/10 because very emotional moments. I had a few of them, I love celebrating goals.”
Klopp’s legacy will forever be ingrained into the history of the club. He won one Premier League title, one Champions League, an FA Cup, two Carabao Cups, the Community Shield, a UEFA Super Cup and a Club World Cup at Liverpool.
