Hugo Ekitike is learning as he goes at Liverpool, but he took the time to become the teacher in a recent interview.
Hugo Ekitike has plenty to learn as a talented football player, but he has also shown he is able to teach during a new interview.
Ekitike has already played for PSG, Eintract Frankfurt and Liverpool, but it is important to remember that he is still only 23 years old.
The striker has already displayed immaturity this season which landed him in hot water with the referee during Liverpool’s Carabao Cup third round victory. Ekitike was sent off against Southampton for removing his shirt when he scored the winning goal.
However, the young Frenchman has impressed this season and he currently has three goals and an assist in six Premier League appearances.
In a recent interview, the footballing student became the teacher. Ekitike spoke with ESPN and explained the meaning of various French slang terms.
The interviewer asked the Liverpool forward what wesh means and he responded: “Wesh, you know it’s like slang. Like, you can use for a lot of stuff like ‘hello’ or wesh like ‘what are you doing’?
“You can say everything, wesh means everything, I swear.”
The forward certainly knows his stuff when it comes to French slang and he will be hoping he can prove the same about his ability to score goals and pose an attacking threat.
The France international has delivered some top performances already this season, but he and Liverpool have struggled during their past two matches.
Ekitike was unable to make an impact in the Champions League as Liverpool slumped to a 1-0 defeat against Galatasaray. He was then only given 16 minutes against Chelsea in a match which was 1-1 when he entered onto the field. However, a late goal from the home side saw Liverpool leave Stamford Bridge with nothing.
Since then Ekitike joined up with his national team and he secured a much needed assist during a 3-0 victory over Uzbekistan. The centre forward was only able to make the bench three days later and he was only brought on with one minute left to play, as France were held to a 2-2 draw by Iceland.
Liverpool are back in action this Sunday against Manchester United and whether he starts or is called on to become the super sub, Ekitike will be hoping to renew the goal scoring form he has shown he is capable of delivering.
