Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has ranked current Liverpool players against Premier League legends and he has sensationally claimed one of his teammates is better than Cristiano Ronaldo.
Curtis Jones was interviewed by GOAL Fan Zone and was asked to choose between one current Premier League player and one former player.
The Liverpool midfielder kicked things off by choosing Allison Becker ahead of legendary Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar.
He continued to disrespect Liverpool’s bitter rivals by selecting Virgil van Dijk over Rio Ferdinand. The ex-United defender achieved a lot during his time at Old Trafford, but van Dijk is a Ballon d’Or runner-up and Jones club captain.
Jones did have to concede that his teammate Andy Robertson was not as good as a prime Ashley Cole.
Making his selection, Jones said: “Robbo, you know I love you brother, but Ashley Cole.”
In a continuation of his clear disdain for Manchester United, Jones chose Rodri over Paul Scholes. However, he revealed it was only because he won the 2024 Ballon d’Or.
He did the same by opting for Yaya Toure over Bruno Fernandes, but there was no chance Jones would choose the Manchester City player when Kevin De Bruyne was pitted against Steven Gerrard.
Without much hesitation, Jones declared he would choose the Liverpool captain of 12 years over De Bruyne, who now plays for Napoli.
Then came a match-up between Mohamed Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo. With Lionel Messi and Ronaldo widely regarded as the two best players in the world, Jones would have been expected to choose the Portuguese winger.
However, Salah has been an extraordinary player for Liverpool and choosing a former Manchester United player instead was never going to be an option.
Jones said: “If it’s in Prem then Salah.”
The 24-year-old did go on to finally choose a former Manchester United player. Wayne Rooney was paired against Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Jones understandably selected the ex-England international as his preferred pick.
The final score revealed Jones chose six past players and four current players, which seems a pretty fair split.
