Hugo Ekitike has made his past and present dream team and there is space for three of his current Liverpool teammates.
Liverpool have had a poor run of Premier League results, but while form is temporary, class is permanent.
Hugo Ekitike is well aware of this and he has named three of his fellow Liverpool teammates in an ultimate dream team consisting of players both past and present.
Mohamed Salah was the first Reds player Ekitike selected on Stan Sport and this should come as no surprise considering his history at the club.
Ekitike will have been aware of Salah’s records when he joined Liverpool, including five club player of the season awards and four Premier League golden boots.
The 33-year-old might not be having his best season, but he did score a terrific strike against Brentford last Saturday. Ekitike can certainly learn from the winger and become a more complete player as a result.
Virgil van Dijk is another player included in Ekitike’s team. The Liverpool captain was named in the 2025 Ballon d’Or shortlist and has been one of the club’s most consistent performers over the past seven and a half years.
Liverpool’s defending this season has been a long way off their usual standard, but only Arsenal conceded fewer goals in the Premier League during the 2024/25 campaign.
When van Dijk’s overall time in Merseyside is taken into account, he has definitely earned his place in Ekitike’s dream XI.
The Dutchman is also joined by Alisson Becker who many believed to be the best goalkeeper in the Premier League during the managerial tenure of Jurgen Klopp.
The Brazilian shot-stopper is still very good at what he does, but his injury record is unfortunate. Hamstring problems have been a particular concern for Alisson and he has been stuck on the sidelines since picking up another injury against Galatasaray.
Liverpool’s disappointing results since then show just how important a player Alisson still continues to be at Anfield.
As well as his three teammates, Ekitike selected Steven Gerrard in his dream team. The 23-year-old would only have been two years old when the ex-Liverpool skipper lifted the Champions League trophy, but he is still likely to have watched the legendary midfielder while he was still performing at the highest level of English football.
Ekitike’s full dream team was as follows: Allison Becker, Dani Alves, Virgil van Dijk, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Steven Gerrard, Zinedine Zidane, Yaya Toure, Mohamed Salah, Samuel Eto’o, Theirry Henry
