Liverpool have taken action after their equalising goal against Manchester City was disallowed, but talkSPORT presenter Jim White is not impressed by the Reds.
The PGMOL has been contact by Liverpool after the controversial decision was made to disallow the goal scored by Virgil van Dijk against Manchester City.
The club captain scored a first-half leveller at the Etihad Stadium, but it was disallowed by VAR. The reason given was because Andy Robertson was deemed to be obstructing Gianluigi Donnrumma’s vision, whilst he stood in an offside position.
Former Premier League referee Howard Webb suggested it was ‘not unreasonable’ for the goal to be ruled out and radio presenter Jim White believes Liverpool must accept this decision.
He told Danny Murphy on talkSPORT: “We’ve heard the whole process and we’ve heard Howard Webb say ‘it’s not unreasonable that they disallowed the goal’. So as a club, do Liverpool need to be put back in their box?”
Ex-Liverpool player Murphy was no fan of White’s terminology, but he did agree that Liverpool are neglecting to focus on what is most important.
“Liverpool have got much bigger problems to be worrying about than a referee’s decision. So get back in your box and worry about what you should be worrying about. Accept the decision and get on with it,” White continued.
“Liverpool contact the PGMOL to raise serious concerns about the decision. They don’t accept the decision to disallow. Get on with it! It was 1-0, it would’ve made it 1-1. They still conceded two more and went on to lose the game, end of.”
White has been quite clear that it is Liverpool’s fault that the game against Manchester City was lost, not the referee’s decision.
He believes the Reds’ best course of action is to move on and accept the decision, despite the fact it came at such a crucial time in the match.
He added: “You’ve heard the process, you’ve heard Howard Webb on it, are you telling the camp that your club is firmly in, that it was right to contact the PGMOL to raise serious concerns about the decision? You don’t accept the decision.
“Well you have to accept the decision and everybody moves on, but do you still say no, it was a point well made, or are you in the camp of Liverpool are a club that have been put firmly back in their box?”
Liverpool were unable to bounce back after the disallowed goal and as a result, Arne Slot and his team are eighth in the Premier League table.
However, they are still just two points below Chelsea, who sit in third. Therefore, a good run of results after the international break could see Liverpool shoot back up the table.
