Wayne Rooney has delivered his verdict on three of Liverpool’s summer signings and only one of them has managed to impress the former Everton and Manchester United forward.
The players Liverpool signed during the summer months have been a big talking point since this season got underway and it is usually for the wrong reasons.
Florian Wirtz is one player who has failed to impress and Rooney has already criticised the midfielder since his move to Liverpool for damaging the teams’ balance.
Wirtz is still without a goal contribution in the Premier League and Rooney has handed him a harsh, yet fair rating of two stars out of five on Amazon Prime Video Sport.
The Germany international is not the only Liverpool summer arrival taking the heat for his performances. Alexander Isak is another player who was brought in for more than £100m, yet has failed to hit the ground running at his new club.
Isak has scored just one goal in a Liverpool shirt and that came against Championship outfit Southampton in the Carabao Cup.
In fairness to the Swede, he has played fewer matches than Wirtz due to both his deadline day arrival and some fitness issues.
However, like the 22-year-old, Rooney has given him a low and undesirable rating of two stars, which again, is a fair reflection of how he has performed so far.
The ex-England frontman did offer his former rivals some positivity when the name of Hugo Ekitike was brought up.
The Frenchman cost Liverpool considerably less money than Wirtz and Isak, but he has had a much better start to life at Anfield, registering six goals and two assists across all competitions.
Since scoring against his former club in the Champions League, Ekitike has gone four matches for his club without finding the back of the net.
Despite this, he has clearly had an impact for Liverpool and as a result, Rooney has bestowed on him an impressive four star rating.
This was the joint highest rating Rooney gave out, as Ekitike shared the top spot with Bryan Mbeumo of Manchester United and Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres.
