Liverpool are interested in a teenage talent who currently plays for RB Leipzig, but bringing him to Anfield will not be cheap.
Money was not a problem for Liverpool in the summer, with large sums paid out to add to Arne Slot’s first-team squad. Signing the very best attacking players was clearly an objective, with the club forking out a combined £320m on Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz.
Despite this expense, Liverpool’s attack is statistically only the sixth best in the Premier League. Their average goals per game tally of 1.64 is considerably lower than the 2.26 figure which was achieved last season.
Therefore, another attacking addition could be what is required when the transfer window reopens, in order to get the team firing again.
According to a report from Rousing the Kop, Journalist Grame Bailey has revealed that Liverpool are interested in signing an 18-year-old winger.
Yan Diomande, who joined RB Leipzig last summer, has impressed Liverpool with his abilities and the Reds plan to be scouting him for the remainder of the season.
Liverpool are said to be in a good position in the race to sign Diomande, but there has been interest from other clubs.
The Ivory Coast international only cost RB Leipzig £18m, even though he had made just 10 appearances at a senior level, but there is now a 100 million Euro (£88.3m) release clause in his contract.
Bailey said: “Diomande is an extraordinary talent. Everyone loves him and Liverpool are one of those, this boy is remarkable, he’s definitely one to keep an eye on.
“12 months ago he was playing high school football in America. He is one who everybody wants, a special, special player and Liverpool are in the mix for sure.
“He’s got a 100 million release clause, they paid 20 million Euros for him in the summer after he had only been playing football for six months. That shows you how much they liked him, their scouts did a brilliant job.”
Diomande was playing for the DME Academy in the United States just last year and in 2023 he was rejected by Rangers after having a trial at the Scottish club.
He has progressed quickly since moving to Europe, playing for Leganes in Spain before signing for his current team.
Diomande has registered three goals and two assists in the Bundesliga this season and Liverpool could look to make him their fourth signing from the league in the space of a year.
