George Best once claimed that ‘King Kenny’ Dalglish was as good as one of the greatest players of all time.
Dalglish played a key role during one of the greatest era’s in Liverpool’s history, scoring 172 goals in all competitions before his retirement in 1990.
The Scottish great racked up an outstanding haul of 19 trophies during his time at the Reds, including three European Cups and six League Titles over a 13-year period.
Dalglish returned to the club as manager in 2011 but his stint only lasted a year and a half after he was relieved of his duties at the end of the 2011-2012 Premier League season following a poor run of form.
In resurfaced footage, George Best once claimed that Dalglish could ‘do everything’ as he compares him to Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano, who he says was the ‘most complete player ever’.
“When I was a kid, almost ready to sign for Manchester United, they used to play a lot against Real Madrid. Even though the Madrid side were sort of on their way out, the most complete player I saw — and my hero in those days — was [Alfredo] Di Stéfano, the centre-forward.
It seemed to be that he could do everything. He scored goals, he could defend, he was good in the air, both feet, exciting to watch. And Kenny — I was going to say he’s close to him, but he’s probably on par. For me, that’s the highest compliment I can pay Kenny.”
Di Stefano enjoyed incredible success during his time at the Spanish giants, winning an impressive six European Cups before his departure to Espanyol in 1964.
