Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has had his say on who he believes was a better forward between former teammates Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen.
Heskey played alongside both Fowler and Owen during his time at Liverpool, striking up a solid partnership with the latter for both club and country.
Owen scored an impressive 158 goals in 297 appearances for the Merseyside club before securing a dream move to Spanish giants Real Madrid in the summer of 2004.
Fowler also racked up an outstanding goal tally for Liverpool during his two spells at the club, hitting the back of the net on 189 occasions in all competitions, making him the sixth highest top scorer in Liverpool’s history.
Speaking during a Reddit AMA, Heskey made no mistake in naming Owen as a better player than Fowler in his honest opinion, although he does speak fondly of the latter.
“I would say, Michael, that’s only because of that relationship in the sense of football in relationship on the pitch. They were both ridiculously good. Robbie’s finishing was probably better than Michael’s. For them when you’re talking about dribbling, etc. Robbie was good, but Michael was another level. So I’d probably say Michael.”
Whilst Owen had gained the respect of Liverpool fans after his memorable time at the club, the ex-England international effectively tarnished his reputation at the club after he signed a two-year deal with arch rivals Manchester United in July of 2009.
