A World Cup winning midfielder has named Steven Gerrard as the one player he wishes he could have played with during his career.
Gerrard is widely regarded as being one of, if not the greatest player to have pulled on a Liverpool shirt.
The former central midfielder captained the Reds for a period of 12-years from 2003 up until his departure in the summer of 2015.
Gerrard made an outstanding 710 appearances for the club in all competitions during his career, hitting the back of the net on 186 occasions along the way.
He tallied up a haul of eight major trophies throughout the course of his tenure, including the UEFA Champions League title in 2005 and two FA Cups in 2001 and 2006 respectively.
Gerrard’s influence both on and off the pitch helped him gain the respect of countless fans and ex-players, including highly-rated former France midfielder Emmanuel Petit.
In a feature with OLBG TV, Petit made no mistake in naming Gerrard as the one player that he regrets not playing alongside during his decorated professional career, which culminated in him winning the FIFA World Cup with France back in 1998.
Known for his impressive defensive abilities, Petit established himself as one of the finest midfielders of his generation. The Frenchman spent three years at Premier League side Arsenal, winning the double in 1997/98, before he made the move to Spanish giants Barcelona.
He would make a return to England with Chelsea in 2001 before retiring in January 2005 following knee surgery.
