Legendary Liverpool defender John Arne Riise believes there are just two left-backs that he considers to be better than him.
The ex-Norway international made a £4 million transfer to the Reds during the summer of 2001 and would go on to spend a memorable seven years at the club.
Riise won five major honours during his time at the club including the UEFA Champions League in 2005 followed by the FA Cup in 2006.
Whilst he spent almost the entirety of his career playing as a left-back, Riise was often credited for his impressive attacking output which saw him score 31 goals and provide 36 assists across all competitions during his time on Merseyside.
In a recent feature with OLBG UK, Riise was tasked with staying quiet until hearing the names of left-backs that he believes are better players than him. The Norwegian great spoke out only when he heard the names of former England star Ashley Cole and Brazilian icon Roberto Carlos.
Former Chelsea and Arsenal star Cole is widely considered to be one of the greatest wide defenders to have ever played in the Premier League. He made a combined total of 385 appearances during his time playing in England which led to him securing his place in the Premier League Hall of Fame in 2024.
As for Carlos, the retired Brazilian great spent the majority of his playing career at Spanish giants Real Madrid, although he did ply his trade for clubs such as Fenerbahce and Inter Milan along the way. Perhaps the most memorable moment of his career came in 2002 when he was a member of Brazil’s FIFA World Cup winning squad.
