Former striker Neil Mellor has named the three current Liverpool players that he believes will prove to be world-class teammates for Mohamed Salah.
Mellor came through the Red’s youth academy and made 22 first-team appearances from 2002–05, scoring six goals. He’s best remembered by fans for a stunning last-minute 30-yard winner against Arsenal and a crucial goal in the Champions League versus Olympiacos that helped Liverpool reach the knockout stages en route to European glory.
Egypt captain Salah has established himself as one of the most influential players to have pulled on a Liverpool’s shirt over the last decade, and many fans and players consider him to be one of the greatest players in the club’s history.
Salah completed a £36.5 million transfer to Liverpool from Italian outfit AS Roma in the summer of 2017 and has gone on to make over 400 appearances for the Reds to date.
‘The Egyptian King’ scored his 250th goal for the club in a 2-0 victory over Premier League rivals Aston Villa back in November, making him the third-highest top scorer in Liverpool history behind Roger Hunt and Ian Rush.
In a feature with OLBG UK, former Liverpool striker Neil Mellor didn’t hesitate to name current trio Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Dominik Szoboszlai as the three players that he believes will establish themselves to be world-class.
Isak and Wirtz both made the move to Merseyside last summer, signing lucrative long-term contracts for the Reds. Isak completed a £125 million move from fellow Premier League club Newcastle United, whilst Wirtz made the switch from Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth around £100 million.
As for Szoboszlai, the Hungarian international signed for the Reds from RB Leipzig in the 2023 Summer transfer window and has established himself as a key figure in the Liverpool midfield during his two seasons at the club.
