A Liverpool great has spoken out after England defender Marc Guehi sealed a move to Manchester City.
City announced on Monday afternoon that they had completed the signing of Guehi in a deal worth around £20 million from fellow Premier League club Crystal Palace.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Guehi was one of the drawn-out transfer sagas of the summer and the Reds got extremely close to the signing on deadline day of the summer transfer window after a £35 million deal was agreed with Crystal Palace.
However, the transfer eventually collapsed after Palace refused to sanction the deal when they failed to find and sign a suitable replacement for their club captain.
After it was revealed that Guehi had made the move up to Manchester, ex-Liverpool defender Steve Nicol shared his verdict on the move claiming Guehi made the right decision to move to Pep Guardiola’s instead of the Reds.
“I don’t think this has got [anything] to do with Liverpool, I think it’s got to do with Guehi. If you’re Guehi — City or Liverpool? You go to City.
Anybody in his position right now, if they want to move in this window and you have the choice, it’s going to be City.”
Prior to announcing the signing of Guehi, Manchester City sealed a £62.5 million transfer for Ghanian international Antoine Semenyo, who had also been linked with a potential transfer to Liverpool before he opted to sign for City instead.
