Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has named the Liverpool star that he believes is as important as Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane.
England captain Kane is widely considered to be one of the best goalscorers on the planet. Since making the move to Germany in August of 2023, Kane has hit the back of the net on 120 occasions for the reigning Bundesliga champions.
Whilst he has proved to be a key player for Bayern Munich in the two seasons he has spent at the club, Kane has also been pivotal to his country over the years which earned him the captains armband back in 2018.
In a recent interview, Emile Heskey admitted that he believes Liverpool and Germany midfielder Florian Wirtz is ‘as important’ as Kane in terms of a national team standpoint.
“Stylistically, I would probably compare Wirtz to Morgan Rogers or Phil Foden. I still consider Foden a number ten, even though he plays on the left side at Man City. If he had a freer role, he would do very well.
When we talk about importance, I would even compare Wirtz to Harry Kane.”
Wirtz signed for Liverpool from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of around £116 million back in the summer transfer window. Despite having a difficult start to his Liverpool tenure, Wirtz has now found his form and will look to play a key role towards the end of this season.
