Liverpool Wait on Gerrard and Henderson Fitness Reports

Waiting is the hardest part
With the busy Festive Fixture list just around the corner, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers won’t be the only one tossing and turning at night until we find out the fate of Reds midfield combo Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson.

The skipper — assisted Mamadou Sakho’s second-half goal from a free-kick only two minutes after the break in yesterday’s emphatic win over Premier League strugglers West Ham United, but he limped off the pitch eight minutes later with an apparent hamstring problem. Although the Reds found a way to cope without Gerrard on the pitch, having their Captain ruled out with the matches coming fast and furious will be a major concern for the Anfield outfit who already have Daniel Sturridge on the treatment table until mid-January.

While the scans Liverpool are waiting on will almost surely rule Gerrard out of next weekends trip to White Hart Lane, Brendan Rodgers is hopeful that it won’t keep his midfield engine on the sidelines for too long. “It was definitely his hamstring. Hopefully it’s just a strain and we’ll see where we’re at in the next 48 hours” said the Reds boss.

Rodgers will also be keeping a close eye on fellow midfielder Jordan Henderson; rumour has it that the 23-year old left Anfield yesterday wearing a protective boot after a horribly late tackle from Hammers captain Kevin Nolan sent the boyhood Liverpool fan for a early bath. Having used up all his subs by this point, Rodgers had no choice but to leave Henderson on the pitch — and though he was able to see out the remainder of the match — he’ll surely have an extra eye on him in training this week as the Reds prepare to face fellow Champions League challengers Tottenham Hotspur next weekend.
