As Salah Deal Stalls, Liverpool Look to Morata

Anfield bound?
With a move for FC Basel winger Mohamed Salah apparently on the rocks, reports are filtering through this morning that Liverpool will turn their attentions to a loan deal for out of favor Real Madrid youngster Alvaro Morata if a move for the Egyptian fails to materialize.

The promising Spain u21 player, who was linked with Tottenham over the summer, is considered a hot commodity on the continent and with fears that an injury to Daniel Sturridge or Luis Suarez could derail Liverpool’s Champions League ambitions, it’s thought that Rodgers is prepared to launch a loan bid for the apparently out of favor striker. Although a permanent move would likely be out of the question, for the time being anyways, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti could be persuaded to shift Morata off on a temporary basis.

Arsenal are also thought to be keen admirers of the starlet with Theo Walcott on the sidelines for the rest of the season and the likes of Olivier Giroud and Nicklas Bendtner suffering knocks, but Liverpool are apparently in with a shout as the Reds continue to hang with the big boys at the upper echelons of the league table. Of course, this could all be a makeweight to force FC Basel’s hand over winger  Mohamed Salah.

A deal for the ” Egyptian Messi ” looked to be all but done and dusted but the Swiss side aren’t ready to part with the talented winger without a fight; or, at the very least, a bidding war. Reports that Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg are ready to blow Liverpool’s offer of £7mil out of the water with nearly double that figure has been making the rounds. The whole thing sounds a bit dubious, but Russian sides making rash financial decisions is nothing new at all…
