Liverpool Target Ivan Rakitic Wants New Sevilla Deal

Enjoying the Spanish life
Another day, another supposed Liverpool target apparently falling by the wayside. We’ve been linked with a number of world class players this transfer window, but have yet to sign anyone and with time ticking down, Sevilla midfielder Ivan Rakitic has expressed an interest in renewing his deal with the Spanish outfit.

While the Reds apparently work on a deal for Rubin Kazan destroyer Yann M’Vila, a more creative counterpart in Rakitic has decided a stay on the continent is in his future rather than a move to England. The 25-year old has been linked with a number of clubs – including Liverpool – after a number of dazzling displays in La Liga had the wolves sniffing around, but with his deal set to expire in 18 months, the Croat is remaining focused on getting an extension.

“Am I attracted to England? At this point about Sevilla I don’t care about another country, about another club” he told news outlet Spox when asked about a potential big-money move to the Premier League. “People know I’m happy in Sevilla, I’m really not under any pressure, my team-mates and all coaches see that I give my all on the pitch.”

Apparently, the Reds had a scout watching the creative midfielder, who has a £33mil release clause, when he racked up a pair of assists in Sevilla’s 2-1 win over Villareal in December, but there’s been little movement since then and his comments only further the notion that Rakitic isn’t interested in going anywhere.

“I’m enjoying football here, I really love life in this city, so it is a great honour that there are signs of a new contract and that the board is really ready to sign me for an even longer period. We’ll see what happens” he said. Sounds like Brendan and company are going to have to look elsewhere…
