Romulo Latest Midfielder to be Linked to Liverpool

The latest in a long line…
Now that the Mohamed Salah transfer saga has been relegated to the old news pile, there’s some fresh fodder coming in on the wire with the Reds linked to Spartak Moscow holding midfielder Romulo.

Even before the injury to Lucas left Liverpool with a gap in the center of the park, the Merseysiders were continually linked with a move for a defensive midfielder this winter with recognized names such as Rubin Kazan shield Yann M’Vila, AC Milan enforcer Nigel de Jong and Udinese all-arounder Emmanuel Badu being thrown around as potential targets. Although little has come out of any of those links, with even less is expected to come out of this latest one, rumours has it that Liverpool are expected to test the waters with an opening bid of £7mil — the same amount we valued Salah at.

The midfielder, who has been on the treatment table for the better part of the last year and a half, has been continually linked with a move away from the Russian side since joining from Corinthians in the summer of 2012. With Liverpool already having to deal with a number of injured players, a move for Romulo could be considered a gamble with the promising midfielder’s latest woe being a tear in his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee almost immediately after returning from another knee problem.

According to the Metro, Spartak would prefer to sell the player in the summer, but could be tempted to let him go should the Reds inch closer to their £10mil valuation of the player. With a bid apparently already sanctioned by the Liverpool transfer committee, Brendan Rodgers could be welcoming the versatile Brazilian – who offers a good passing range along with the bite in his tackle – to the squad in the coming days.

That is, of course, if there’s any truth whatsoever in this.
