Rodgers Remains Hopeful of Making a Major Signing

Rodgers still playing the market
With the clock ticking down, it’s looking less and less likely that Liverpool will be bringing in reinforcements before the transfer window slams shut on Friday. Still, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers remains hopeful that the club will bring someone in.

After missing out on number one target Mohamed Salah to fellow Premier League rivals Chelsea, the Anfield outfit has been forced to look elsewhere for new recruits. A number of names — the latest being FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk winger Yevhen Olehovych — have been linked with a move to Merseyside, but despite Rodgers admitting that no new signings are imminent, the Northern Irishman hasn’t given up hope that the club will be able to “major signing” before the Friday deadline.

“We are working together and hopefully we can have a major signing in before the window closes” the Reds boss said following his side’s 4-0 win over top four rivals Everton yesterday. “If we can get someone in before the window closes we can then set up for the remaining games this season.”

As of yet, the Anfield outfit has been stifled in the market with a rumoured loan bid turned down for Rubin Kazan defensive shield Yann M’Villa at the beginning of the month adding to the frustrations of missing out on Salah last week. “The people behind the scenes are working very, very hard and we are not always going to get the players we want for a number of reasons” conceded the Northern Irishman. “The people here are very important to what we are trying to do.”

Although the club’s hierarchy has come in for some schtick regarding the lack of signings, the January window is always a tough market to buy in; it’s still not over though. We’ll see where we’re at when Friday rolls around…

Carroll is still haunting Liverpool. £11m would’ve gotten Salah but the money men are under strict orders not to go a penny over what they value a player because of what happened with Carroll and Downing. But Liverpool have to be a little flexible if they want their targets. Salah is similar to Sterling but better at scoring goals, he would’ve fitted in perfect.

Do you think they are 100% bound by the valuation or willing to go over by a small percentage? I suppose it makes little difference, you have an upper limit and you stick to it but … I’d be interested to know if the club are willing to pay 10% or so over their initial valuation. There has to be some flexibility. The way I saw it with Salah was that the club might have been willing to go to 11 million but Basel were always holding out for 16. In that case it’s hardly a surprise the deal never got done, but it’s impossible to really know what the club were offering.

I think we have to pick our battles, given that Chelsea are a team with deep pockets and that they had the Mata cash I think it would have been counter productive to get into a bidding war.
I question whether a winger is really our most pressing need anyway, what with our full back and defensive midfielder weaknesses

After his moronic purchases of a donkey (Carroll), a couple of mules (Downing & Adam) and a meek lamb (Henderson), Kenny Dalglish was tasked by the Anfield board to place a cap on any new signing. Long live the Jester…oops… I mean the King,

Hey Adam, by your own very admission – there is no telling what went on behind closed doors – why then do you even attempt to hazard what could have taken place? A typical moron, if ever there is one!

Fielding Lucas is in itself weakening the Liverpool team.

Rodgers should go for a last ditch attempt at Matudi from PSG now they have got Cabaye his contract runs out in the summer so would represent good value.
Sign Konoplyanka as well more strength and quality additions that will make the starting XI !!
Johnson obviously doesn’t want to sign a new contract, so let him go along with Reina, Assaidi, and borini. (Get £25m ish)
Kelly and Flano fight it out for the RB role.
Then a quality new striker and LB.
