In the build-up to England’s international friendly with Denmark later today, Liverpool and Three Lion’s skipper Steven Gerrard has hailed the Reds connection in the national team and has tipped his teammates for glory at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

The skipper, who has 108 caps and counting for England, is being joined by Liverpool teammates Glen Johnson, Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge – players that have each played a massive role in the Reds surprising season. With 10-matches left to play, the Anfield outfit sit in second place, a mere four points behind league leaders Chelsea.

Although it’s only a friendly, Gerrard knows as well as any that turning in consistently good performances is one of the keys to getting a spot in the squad, and if his mates from Merseyside want to join him in South America this summer, they’re going to have to replicate their domestic form on the international stage. “I think we have got five in the squad and everyone is in good form and feeling confident” Gerrard told the press ahead of the match. “If everyone is selected hopefully they can bring their performances tomorrow night.”

We’ve seen the likes of Henderson, Sterling and Sturridge go on to make their mark at Anfield this term and Gerrard credits the Reds boss with their rise to prominence. “You have got to give credit to Brendan Rogers” the Liverpool skipper continued. “If you are good enough he plays you. He is not scared and he has been paid back by them with top-class performances.” Now, let’s see if they can do it for England…
