Earlier this month, he scooped up the FTBpro PFA Fan Player of the Month award, a prize which is voted on entirely by the supporters, so it comes as no surprise that he’s picked up the official one as well. It’s hard to see how anyone else could have taken either honour above the Reds man; with five goals and two assists to his name last month alone, he was head and shoulders above the competition – and that’s saying a lot.
Goals against both Arsenal and Swansea City saw the striker continue on an impressive run of form in which he became only the second player in Premier League history to score in eight consecutive games. “He’s a natural goalscorer,” Reds boss Brendan Rodgers said in a press conference following Liverpool’s 4-3 win over former club Swansea City. “He’s got the ability, he’s got the quality and thankfully he plays for us here and has still got a lot of improving to do.”
This is the second time this season that Sturridge picked up the Player of the Month Award; back in August, the Anfield outfit did the double at the awards with Rodgers also picking up the Manager of the Month award. With Luis Suarez still suspended, the 24-year old stepped up in a big way, scoring the winner in each of the Reds first three matches – including a strike against this weekend’s opponents, and old foes, Manchester United.
