Still No Return Date for “Pain Free” Suarez

Go on and put your feet up

You can be as hopeful as you want, but after undergoing knee surgery ahead of this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is going to be ready to play when he’s ready to play.

We saw Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa make a less than impressive return from injury in last weekend’s Champions League final as the Brazilian turned Spaniard lasted less than 10-minutes after being rushed back from a hamstring problem. With Uruguyan’s around the world overly optimistic that the talismanic attacker will be ready for his country’s opening match on June 14th, as we saw in last weekend’s match in Lisbon, rushing injuries is both dangerous and counter-productive.

“The core of the concept of his return was expressed in the initial statement made in the immediate post-operative period and we can happily say that Luis’ participation in the World Cup is not ruled out,” Uruguay doctor Alberto Pan told the media. “It is very risky to give exact dates. We cannot have absolute certainty or clear numbers but the postoperative period has been very good.”

The striker, who scored 31-goals over the course of last season’s Premier League as Liverpool finished runners-up to Manchester City, remains in good spirits and is hoping to play some part as La Celeste look to better their impressive showing at World Cup 2010 in South Africa. “Luis is not ruled out of the World Cup, but you cannot talk about specific times. Luis is very positive, I never heard a negative expression, and he says it is better every day” he continued. “Today Suarez is pain-free and is working on fitness and supporting essentials.”

Is he pain free because you’ve got him hopped up on drugs?
