Liverpool in for £16mil Alberto Moreno

Big talent, big money

We’ve been heavily linked with a move for highly rated Sevilla fullback Alberto Moreno and according to the press, who, obviously, can’t always be trusted, we’re close to agreeing to a deal with the Spanish outfit to secure his services — a big money kind of deal.

The Reds hierarchy have been known to go in on the cheap before — read: Mohamed Salah — but it looks like they’re coming in with all guns blazing for the 21-year old defender with reports suggesting a £16mil bid which may also see attacking-midfielder Suso move in the opposite direction. The youngster may have turned some heads at relegation dodging Almeria where he spent last season on-loan, but it sounds like Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is willing to cut him loose on a permanent basis if it’ll help bring Moreno to Merseyside.

The 21-year old established himself at Sevilla as they placed fifth in La Liga last season and was an integral part of the squad that claimed the Europa League. Although Spain manager Vicente del Bosque is yet to name his full team for the World Cup this summer in Brazil, Moreno has been tipped to spend his summer in South America as a full member of the travelling party.

Swapping one promising youngster for another — and fat wads of cash — could be a gamble for the Reds, but with the responsibility of Champions League football looming, and their defensive frailties a major talking point, he looks to be a chance worth taking. Considering the price tag attached to Southampton fullback Luke Shaw, who appears to be Chelsea bound, Moreno could very well end up being looked at as a bargain in a few years time. With Jose Enrique spending much of last season injured, Aly Cissokho failing to impress on loan from Valencia and Glen Johnson putting in a shift that can only be described as indifferent, it’s time to shake things up.

I have to say I think he is a talent, but more of a £5m to £10m talent. I would much rather see Can at LB, he played a lot better this season.
