Suarez’s Lawyer Gets in on the Real Madrid Talk

Dance, boys, dance

Even though he’s out injured, the speculation surrounding the future of Liverpool striker Luis Suarez remains just as intense as ever. Although his agent has remained surprisingly tight lipped on the matter, his lawyer, Alejandro Balbi, has given a bizarre interview with a Spanish radio stadio discussing the matter.

The striker, who signed a new long-term contract at Anfield after last summer’s shenanigans ended with primary owner John W. Henry flat out refusing to sell him, has repeatedly insisted that he’s happy on Merseyside and has denied any special clause giving him an iron clad escape route should certain teams — namely Real Madrid or Barcelona — submit a suitable bid for his services. With Champions League football secure and the future looking bright for Suarez at Liverpool, one would think that there’d be little reason to leave, but his lawyer isn’t so sure.

Although the Reds would likely rebuff any approach for their prized striker, Balbi thinks he would have a hard time resisting the advances of the Champions League winners. “A year ago he was very likely to leave Liverpool,” he explained in an interview with Spanish radio network Cadena Ser. “Now I think it is very difficult because he is an idol, although clubs can offer a lot of money. If there is such a big offer from Real Madrid, it is very difficult to say no. Luis Suarez has always had a predisposition for Spain.”

Like many South American footballers, Spain is seen as an ideal destination to ply their trade with a welcoming climate and both a familiar language and way of life a major bonus for their families. As rumours continue to swirl at the Santiago Bernabéu regarding the futures of strikers Álvaro Morata and Karim Benzema, a bid from Carlo Ancelotti’s side could very well be forthcoming.

Or, of course, this could just be his lawyer trying to step into the spotlight for a brief moment — something that’s obviously bang out of order.
