It was less than a week ago that we saw Daniel Sturridge’s new advert for Subway alongside football legend Pele, and now, soon to be ex-Liverpool ‘keeper Pepe Reina has a co-star arguably as famous in his new spot for McDonald’s restaurant: the Big Mac.
You can get the jist of the commercial even if you don’t speak Spanish; the Spain shot stoppers wife comes home to find his clothes strewn all over their home. Fearing the worst, she storms up the stairs and burst into the bedroom startling Reina who’s embracing the signature burger tender lover and care before telling his wife that he “can explain”.
It must have taken some convincing to convince the 31-year old, a known gourmand, to agree to appear in this commercial, but an impending pay cut could have greased the wheels a little bit with the Spaniard expected to leave Liverpool this summer. As of yet, Reina has no idea where his future lies after spending last season on loan at Italian club Napoli. With his future uncertain, there’s no shame in pocketing a little money for the hard times — even if it comes courtesy of an evil clown.
