Wilfried Bony on Reds Radar After Alexis Sanchez Joins Arsenal

With Liverpool missing out on Barcelona attacker Alexis Sanchez after the Chilean striker completed a £35mil move to Arsenal yesterday, the Reds are wasting no time looking at alternatives with Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony peaking their interest.
The big Ivorian, who bagged two goals in three appearances at the World Cup this summer, enjoyed a decent first season in the Premier League as the Welsh club struggled to reach the heights of their previous campaigns. With 16-goals domestically and a pair in Europe, the 25-year old has attracted interest from across the English top-flight with — and there’s no surprise here folks — Tottenham Hotspur also said to be keen on securing his services. That, of course, is where the offer of Champions League football will show it’s many advantages yet again.
With Luis Suarez apparently set to make his move to Barcelona official over the weekend, the Reds are in for a windfall of around £75mil after the Catalan giants agreed to meet the Uruguayan’s buy-out clause. How exactly the payments will be structured remains to be seen, but the much deserved influx of cold, hard cash means that Rodgers will have £19mil on hand to secure Bony should the Anfield outfit decide to make a move.
While it wouldn’t be surprising to see them go in a little bit shy of full asking price — you know, just for giggles — thankfully, the Welsh side won’t be able to get a good ol’ fashioned bidding war under way with the Ivorian’s buy-out clause already set following his £12mil move from Eredivisie side Vitesse last summer. That certainly puts a damper on things for them, doesn’t it?
