Bayern Munich Chief Confirms They’re Ignoring Interest in Xherdan Shaqiri

Ignoring interest

For the past year and a half, Liverpool have been continually linked with a move for highly-rated Bayern Munich youngster Xherdan Shaqiri and this summer has been no different.

Following a successful showing at the World Cup this summer, the Swiss star’s stock has only continued to rise along with the Reds interest in bringing the player to Anfield. Although the 22-year old has hinted on a number of occasions that a move to the Premier League would be just fine by him and that he’s not happy playing a bit part in Bavaria, a concrete move has yet to materialize despite almost constant media speculation to the contrary. One might wonder what the hold-up is, but now we know for sure with Bayern Munich supremo Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirming that they’re just not listening to offers for him.

“We’ve had enquiries from several clubs from England and Italy but I’ve not held a single round of talks, because we’re convinced he’ll have a great career with us” he told the clubs official website when asked about Shaqiri’s future at the German giants. “He needs to stay fit and the coach totally believes in him.”

Liverpool ‘keeper Pepe Reina is all set to formalize a move to the Bundesliga champions later on today after completing a medical with them, but that doesn’t appear to have sweetened the pot any. “We have a good team. Pep wants 18 top players and five or six talents” continued Rummenigge. “He is very happy with his squad, he does not want unhappy players sitting in the stands.” Whether this hints at an expanded role for the grumpy winger remains to be seen, but it’s certainly another set-back in Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers on-going crusade to bring him to Anfied.
