Brendan Rodgers Confirms There’s Been No Offers for Injured Daniel Agger

No offers — yet.

After leaving Liverpool’s pre-season tour of North America early with a knee problem, news regarding Reds defender Daniel Agger has been scarce with speculation increasing that he could be on his way out the door this summer.

Following yesterday’s 4-0 win over German side Borussia Dortmund in their final friendly ahead of the new Premier League season, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers confirmed that the club have received no offers as of yet for the 29-year old and hinted that he could stay at the club for the foreseeable future. “Dan is still getting some work done on his knee,” said the manager when asked about the defender. He’s been unfortunate since America, so he’s still getting treatment.”

With Spanish side Barcelona confirming the capture of Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen late yesterday, a move to the Catalan capital looks to no longer be an option for Agger, though he has been linked as both a replacement for the Belgian in North London and as a target for Tottenham Hotspur. Regardless, whether any of that’s true at all, no one has come sniffing around him quite yet. “I’ve seen some stories on that but, no, we haven’t had any enquiries” confirmed the Northern Irishman.

“They know the philosophy of how we work exactly, they know the style in which we operate, they know I will speak and communicate with them and they know the team will change because there will be so many games. It’ll be about the squad” he said when asked what role the squad will play in the upcoming season. “The man-management of it is very, very simple – it’s just about communicating and talking with players [and them] recognising and understanding that sometimes it’s difficult not playing when you want to play, but knowing they have a role here and that’s why we brought them to the club.”
