No Alberto Moreno Agreement in Place Ahead of European Showdown

Since Liverpool reportedly made a breakthrough in their summer long efforts to sign fullback Alberto Moreno from Sevilla, the popular story doing the rounds is that the 22-year old will complete his move following the Europa League winners showdown with Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup Tuesday night at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.
While that all sounds kosher, Reds fans everywhere have already been well versed in the Andalusian side’s little games, so there’s no surprise that the deal looks like it’s on the skids once again. With multiple media outlets reporting that a £16mil + add-ons deal between the two sides has been agreed, Sevilla president Jose Castro has once again done what he does best — throw cold water on any rumours regarding the prized defender.
“There have been negotiations, eight or 10 days ago, but there has been no agreement and nor is there today. If Liverpool’s offer is suitable he will leave” he said when asked if Moreno is set to leave following their showdown with their La Liga rivals in Wales. “If not, he’ll stay and nothing will happen, absolutely nothing. We’ll be at ease.”
The Reds, of course, can’t say the same. With the new season set to kick off less than a week from today, their inability to bring in not only competition but suitable cover for Jose Enrique on the left side is a serious problem. Although it might just be smoke and mirrors from Sevilla ahead of an important showdown, their manager isn’t about to give us any hints either. “I expect tomorrow he will play with us and I don’t know if there is anything with Liverpool” said Unai Emery.
Just when you thought it was safe to assume this deal was done…
