He might not be doing it at senior level quite yet, but Liverpool midfielder Emre Can showed his obvious quality last night by bagging three assists as the German U-21 side humbled their Romanian counterparts in a 8-0 win to secure progression to the U-21 Euro 2015 play-offs.

We haven’t seen much of the 20-year old since his £10mil move from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, but even in this short video, we can see what an all around player he is. The headed pass to set up the first was as deft a pass as any, the ingenuity behind the quick free-kick for the second shows a very good reading of the game and the delicate back-heel lay-off that saw him claim a hat-trick of assists was the icing on an already sweet cake.

Assists aside, his ability to both get a tackle in and spray the ball around from deep are integral to Liverpool’s style of play and will bode well for this future with the Reds. While it could very well take an injury to either Steven Gerrard or Jordan Henderson to see Can rack-up some regular playing time this season, the depth in quality that he adds to the squad can’t be disputed. When he gets a chance, he’s going to take it…
