Despite persistent rumours linking Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling with a move to defending European champions Real Madrid, boss Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that although he’s a fan of the 19-year old, he doesn’t have an interest in taking him to the Santiago Bernabéu at this time.
The youngster, who forced two own goals as the Reds narrowly beat bottom of the barrel Queens Park Rangers on Sunday, will get to visit the famous stadium when Liverpool visit in the Champions League in just under two weeks time, but he’ll certainly get his chance to show the ten time Champions League winners what he’s all about when they visit Anfield tomorrow. While he’s sure to impress no matter what the scoreline, Ancelotti isn’t looking to snatch him away from Anfield — at least, not quite yet.
““Sterling is a player of great quality, certainly one of the best in Europe – but we already have extraordinary talent here” praised the veteran Italian manager ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Anfield. “To think of another striker for the Real Madrid attack is really extremely difficult. It’s clear that Sterling is not in our plans.”
There’s no denying that; although the worlds most expensive player Gareth Bale could miss out through injury, Ancelotti will still have Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, World Cup superstar James Rodriguez and French hit-man Karim Benzema at his disposal for the Champions League clash. Although anything can and will happen, on paper anyway, the Reds can’t compete with that. It’s about time we got Sterling tied down to a new deal before the big spending Spaniards decide to change their minds…
