Daniel Sturridge Returns to Full Training Ahead of Eagles Clash

Back on track

We’ve been here before so don’t get too excited, but ahead of Liverpool’s meeting with Crystal Palace next weekend, striker Daniel Sturridge has returned to full training with the Merseyside club.

“Training was class. Happy to be back. Thank you Jesus” tweeted the 25-year old after being put through his paces at Melwood yesterday. While this is obviously a good sign, again, don’t start counting your chickens and all that. Sturridge who has been out of action since damaging his hamstring training with England at the end of August, suffered a set-back when he hurt his calf the last time the Reds thought he was on the verge of a comeback, and with the match with the Eagles well over a week away, there’s a whole of time for something else to go wrong.

Thankfully, the striker is keeping a far more positive attitude than the rest of us cynics and is targeting the trip to Selhurst Park for his triumphant return to the pitch. “I’ll be ready for that one,” he told BT Sport when asked if he’ll be ready when Liverpool visit the Capital. “God willing, I’ll be ready. I’m looking forward to it.”

He’s not the only one; the Reds have struggled immensely in his absence, winning only four times in 14-attempts since he picked up the initial hamstring injury. While Liverpool’s defence reamains a major talking point, they haven’t exactly been setting the world alight in front of the net either with a mere 14 league goals to their name so far this season — a sad cry from the 21 they registered at the same point last year.
