Anxious Wait Ahead as Liverpool Sweat Lallana Injury
He only just looked to be returning to the kind of form that saw Liverpool splash out big money to bring Adam Lallana to Anfield during the summer, but now Liverpool face an anxious wait as the 26-year old is assessed by the medical team after picking up an injury against Leicester City.
The Reds raced to a two goal lead going into the break with a pair of controversial penalties converted by Steven Gerrard, but the Foxes struck back with two goals in under two minutes as they pushed their hosts for a well deserved point. An early departure for Lallana in the second half saw Liverpool’s attacking momentum stunted for the remainder of the match, though boss Brendan Rodgers wasn’t using that as an excuse for the dropped points.
“He’s got a tweak in his thigh, so we’ll see how that is,” said the Northern Irishman, briskly moving on when asked about the midfielders condition. “We were trying to risk the game at the end – we went to three at the back and stuck on an extra attacker. In the last 10 minutes, we were throwing everything at it to get the win. Tactically, we had to risk.”
After a slow start to life at Anfield, Lallana has started to re-discover his groove with three goals and an assist this month alone as part of an attacking trio with Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho. Although Daniel Sturridge is set to return later this month, if the attacking midfielder is sidelined for any length of time, it would deal the Reds yet another blow in a season that has already been filled with them.
