Raheem Sterling Contract Signing “Imminent” Says Reds Boss

Raheem Sterling’s proposed new contract has been a talking point since the beginning of the season and though there’s been a longer than expected delay in the youngster putting pen to paper, heading into this weekend’s FA Cup clash with Championship side Bolton Wanderers, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers confirmed an agreement is close.
Rumour has it that the 20-year old was holding out for a bump well beyond the reported £70k per week that the club had initially put on the table but that they had met somewhere in the middle with some media outlets reporting that the Anfield outfit were prepared to breach the £100k mark to get their man. Although he didn’t comment on the nitty-gritty details, the Liverpool boss did say he expected a deal — whatever that may be — to be completed shortly.
“Obviously the club are speaking with his representatives on it. I would think that will be concluded very imminently” explained the Northern Irishman earlier today. “You can see he’s very happy, it’s nothing to do with Raheem – he wants to be here. Hopefully we’ll get a solution on that very soon.”
Sterling, who scored the equalizer in the Reds midweek draw with Chelsea, has attracted the attentions of some of Europe’s biggest clubs, though Liverpool are reportedly prepared to pull out all the stops to get their man and ward off interest in the 20-year old. Both Real Madrid and Ligue One giants Paris St. Germain are rumoured to be monitoring the contract talks closely as they eye up a move for him, but if Rodgers is right, then there won’t be any cause for concern.
