Working on His Aim: Philippe Coutinho Taking on Extra Shooting Practice

If losing out to Chelsea over the two legs of the League Cup semi-final re-enforced anything, it’s that you have to bury your chances. Liverpool, as per usual, created a lot, but could only find the net once against the Blues. Although Jose Mourinho’s side barely fared any better, there was a real sense that if the Reds could hit they net, they would of bossed the tie.

With Daniel Sturridge set to return — if all goes well — against West Ham United at the weekend, Brendan Rodgers will once again have a striker that knows where the net is no matter where teams try to hide it. While that’s sure to eventually help out with our unimpressive goal tally, midfielder Philippe Coutinho is looking to do his part as well with the midfielder revealing that he’s been doing some extra shooting practice in a bid to crank up his output.

“There are always so many things to improve. I’ve been working on assisting my team-mates even further and improving my goal tally as I understand this as being part of my role. I expect to do better on this” explained the Brazilian attacker following the loss to Chelsea on Tuesday. “In training, I’ve been working with our coaches on specific tasks to better my final touch. Whenever possible, I have post-training sessions to work on improving my shooting accuracy.”

The 22-year old, who has been enjoying his time back in the Brazilian national team, has found the net only twice this season — a fact that he’s well aware of. “We’re constantly looking to improve and, as I said, I for one know I have to improve a few things. I want to be a player who will score goals more often” he continued. “We’re in a good shape at the moment and we’ll have a few opportunities to test that in all games and competitions we have ahead of us.”
