Liverpool About to Move for Burnley Striker Danny Ings

Although Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers took the “woe is me” approach when asked about the transfer window during his pre-match interview at Melwood yesterday, reports coming out of respected media outlets have it on good authority that the Reds will be making a move for Burnley striker Danny Ings before the February 2nd cut-off.
Now, whether or not they’ll be successful is a different story altogether. Clarets manager Sean Dyche would be loathe to lose the 22-year old, who has scored a third of their 21 league goals this season, this late in the game — especially with the club sitting only one point above the drop zone. While staying in the top-flight could very well hinge on whether Ings stays at Turf Moor, it’s not all doom and gloom with there being a real chance that Liverpool will loan him back to the club for the remainder of the season.
That, of course, would be good for Burnley, but would it make much sense for the Reds? With Daniel Sturridge set to make his return to the match day squad tomorrow, the immediate need for fire-power will be abated, but only if he’s able to stay healthy. Considering he’s been out since the end of August, and that we have already recalled one player from loan while spending much of the window trying to claw back another, letting Ings leave before he even arrives might be just about the daftest thing we could do.
Regardless, as far as anyone knows, Liverpool is yet to make a bid for his services let alone take awkward pictures of him signing his contract and leaning on various things around Melwood. Fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and La Liga outfit Real Sociedad — managed by ex-Manchester United supremo David Moyes — are also thought to have a keen interest in the 22-year old. So, you know, there’s always that…
More on this as it develops.
