Glen Johnson Actively Seeking New Club Confirms Player’s Agent

Keeping his eyes open

With the two sides failing to find common ground over his proposed new deal, the agent of Liverpool fullback Glen Johnson has confirmed that the 30-year old is looking for a new club with the veteran defender looking likely to leave Anfield when his deal expires this summer.

“He’s obviously looking for things at the moment. He’s looking at many clubs. Glen is obviously looking for somewhere where he can turn around his career,” his representative Jonathan Barnett told RomaPress. “That’s the most important thing for him – where he can play nicely under a good club that’s challenging for things. That is where he wants to be.”

Johnson has been heavily linked with a move to Italian side AS Roma as his contract woes with the Reds rumbled on and there are suggestions that a pre-contract agreement has already been signed. Although his agent was quick to deny that his client is already heading for the Eternal City, rumours persist that boss Rudi García is keen to have the 30-year old take up the flank opposite fellow Englishman Ashley Cole in their back line.

Whether he ends up in Rome isn’t a concern for the immediate future, but Barnett was quick to point out that it’d be an ideal fit for his client. “Well, I can’t really say if he is considering Roma, we’ve had no contact with Roma. Although, Roma would be a lovely place for him,” he confirmed. “Ashley Cole absolutely adores it there, I represent him as well. Ashley thinks very highly of Rome, but we’ve had no contact with Roma regarding Glen.”
