Danny Ings Isn’t Our Only Option Confirms Liverpool Manager

With Daniel Sturridge set to be sidelined for at least the next four months following hip surgery in the United States, Liverpool are almost certain to dip into the market this summer as they look to shake-up their misfiring strike-force.

For better or for worse, one of the names consistently linked with a move to Merseyside is Burnley FC hit-man Danny Ings. The 22-year old, who has bagged himself  ten league goals and four assists over the course of the campaign, is availble on a free transfer this summer after letting his contract with the now relegated Clarets run down. While he’s also been linked with a number of other clubs, Anfield looks like the likely destination for the English striker with the Reds having already made their intentions known as early as January.

That being said, Liverpool aren’t about to close any doors with boss Brendan Rodgers confirming that Ings isn’t exactly the only player that they’re weighing up making a move for. “He’s a terrific young player, but there are a number of options for us to look at,” the Northern Irishman told talkSPORT when quizzed on their interest in the 22-year old. “There’s no doubt he’s done really well for Burnley and he’s a good young player.”

Good, young and cheap is usually good business for a club and the Burnley man certainly ticks all those boxes, though there are doubts that he’ll be able to make the grade on Merseyside. Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini — though each of them sparsely used — haven’t exactly done anything to earn themselves another season at the club and all three of them are expected to depart this summer with Ings one of many names being thrown around as possible replacements.
