After insisting all last summer and throughout the season that he would prefer to stay at Anfield and fight for his place, the agent of Liverpool striker Fabio Borini has confirmed that the Italian hit-man will be looking to leave the Reds this summer.
The 24-year old, who had Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers fighting over him the previous year and Inter Milan wanting to bring him back to Serie A on loan in January, failed to make an impact on his return to Merseyside following a season long loan at the Stadium of Light and struggled for game time throughout the campaign. Now, he apparently doesn’t care where he goes, just as long as goes.
“Fabio wants a new experience. We expected more consideration from Liverpool. There are teams from all over Europe interested in him,” Marco De Marchi told Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport. op clubs in Europe are keen on him, from the Premier League to the Bundesliga and there also clubs in Italy, but many clubs in Italy have had coaching changes and that has slowed things down,” he continued. “He has no preference, he just wants a team that gives him a clear chance to prove himself. Right now he feels like a lion in a cage.”
The arrival of Danny Ings from Burnley FC and the end of Divock Origi’s loan spell with French club Lille has almost certainly signalled the end of Borini’s time at Anfield with the 24-year old even less likely to see the pitch now. With both parties finally agreeing on his future, the only question that remains is just how much they’ll be able to get for him. “His current value is that given by Sunderland last year,” explained De Marchi, making reference to the £14mil bid they had accepted for him last July. “However, that figure could be affected by the season he’s had at Liverpool and the fact that in a year his contract runs out.”
