Aquilani is Italy Bound

Twirling his time away…
It’s late here and early there, but Alberto Aquilani is packing his bags for Fiorentina after the Reds accepted a bid, rumored to be somewhere in the region of £7mil, for the Italian midfielder. Bought to replace Xabi Alonso after his acrimonious move to Real Madrid left Liverpool short in the center of the park, the £20mil that brought the former Roma man to Merseyside will now be seen as money down the drain as he finally gets the permanent move he’s been angling for since arriving in England. Or, is that even the case? It was only 3 days ago when Alberto claimed that he’s looking to prove himself to new boss Brendan Rodgers and that his loan moves to Juventus and AC Milan weren’t so much against his will, but what the club thought would be in his best interest. With the Aquaman finally put out to pasture, it’s expected that Liverpool will now step up their interest in £15mil rated Swansea midfielder Joe Allen. With the Welshman currently representing Team Great Britain at the Olympics, it could be some time before we see any movement on this.

Selling aqua is a moronic move.. and Joe Allen is worth 5m at most… but that’s what happens when we hire the swansea manager to run one of the biggest clubs in the world..

Fiorentina can’t afford his wages. Besides Aqua is a skillful player. We don’t need more crappy British players.

I don’t know what is BR doing? Like KD, put the faith on crappy British players. End of the season, frustrated and sacked.

Sorry guys but you are wrong here. Aquillani has skills yes but not the mental and physical determination to play in the worlds fastest and toughest league, BR has assessed him and decided to move him on, that’s good enough for me.

As for Allen, we need an additional holding / distributing midfielder and this lad has lots of potential already having showed what he can do in a newly promoted team. I for one hope we sign him. Watch him in team GB, he is a very tidy player indeed and at 22 would be a sound investment.

I would expect a winger or two to come as well, Ramirez seems like a distinct possibility.

Buying crappy British players with “lots of potential” is reason where we at now. We need established and experienced not “potential” material

If Aquilani was established and experienced Juventus or Milan would have kept him.

The thing I don’t like most about Aquilani is you never know wtf is really going on with him. Both he and his agent speak out of both sides of their mouths. At this point, he’s nearly 29, very expensive, and still unproven in our lineup. Time to cut our losses. It’s becoming clear why Rafa didn’t play him when he was healthy. There are some behind-the-scenes things going on that we aren’t privy to.

I wouldn’t pay through the nose for Allen, but he’s a much better alternative to Lucas than Spearing.

As CSD says – if he was good enough Juventus or Milan would have kept him. In my opinion, he isn’t ‘quick’ or strong enough for the prem. Hopefully this is the first of the cull for our current midfield as there needs to be. Having watched Allen last season and for GBR – he plays at the right tempo and is always available for a pass. He generally finds another team member too. Something 1 or 3 of the current lot should take note of.
