VIDEO: Cissokho Opens the Scoring; Reds Level at the Break
Liverpool have never won at the Brittania Stadium in the Premier League, and despite going 2-0 up during the first half, goals from Reds old boys Peter Crouch and Charlie Adam have cancelled out strikes from Aly Cissokho and Luis Suarez to make sure the hosts end the half on level terms.
Cissokho’s heavily deflected strike opened the scoring after it looked like Liverpool’s attacking impetus was gone. The French defender has had his troubles since joining the Reds on-loan from Valencia earlier in the summer, but his strike proved to be important as his new side took an early lead. Just after the half hour mark, a deep Martin Skrtel clearance saw Luis Suarez chase down what looked to be a lost cause to slot past rookie ‘keeper Jack Butland and double the visitors lead.
Despite the scoreline, Mark Hughes side never looked fully out of it and Peter Crouch would drag one back with a well placed header to shift the momentum back in Stoke’s favour with Reds fullback Glen Johnson culpable for allowing the cross.
Charlie Adam would pull his side level after Martin Skrtel hesitated in closing the Scotsman down and his powerful left foot drive gave Reds netminder Simon Mignolet absolutely no chance. We’ve got it all left to play for in the second half…
