Liverpool Manager Brendan Rodgers in line for New Contract

Explain this again; first, you get the money?
Although the season is still in full swing, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is set to be offered a new contract reportedly worth £2.5mil per year after turning around the fortunes of the Anfield outfit.

It’s only February and the Reds, sitting on 53-points in fourth place, have already bettered their points haul for the entirety of the 2011/2012 season and, so far, scored a mind boggling 19 goals more. With the Merseysiders on a serious upward trajectory and being tipped as serious title contenders, primary owners Fenway Sports Group are keen to tie the Northern Irishman down to a new deal – and they’re prepared to splash the cash to make sure their man stays put.

With 18-months remaining on his current deal, Rodgers has previously admitted that he’s “in the dark” over his long term future at the club, but with the 4-0 destruction of cross-town rivals Everton and the 5-1 thrashing of Arsenal still resonating throughout the league table, it’s thought that primary owner John W. Henry has assured the Reds boss that he will be the man to lead the club into the future.

Rodgers, who ruled his side out of the title race last week, has so far refused to trumpet his team’s chances of lifting their first title of Premier League era despite the backing being given — or, mind games being played – by Liverpool’s rivals for the crown. Going into Sunday’s meeting with Arsenal in the FA Cup, the Reds boss confirmed that he doesn’t intend to shake up his squad and rest his key players against the Gunners, insisting that they’ll be ready for next weekend’s clash with Swansea City when the Premier League resumes.

With no European football to worry about, Rodgers is going full bore on both fronts; an interesting approach with such a thin squad and Champions League qualification so agonizingly close…

Rodgers is the right man, no doubt about it. Konoplyanka and a top midfielder added in the summer to the current team and Liverpool would be a real force, possibly a good fullback too would make a big difference.

I agree totally; glad the owners gave him time to integrate his system into play and bring in a few of his own players.

I think we’ll see some quality additions in the summer as long as we secure Champions League football. Hopefully we get our business done early – the World Cup always inflates prices.
