Following his medical, when he was ambushed in the airport by a Sky Sports reporter, he looked like a bag of nerves. Today, after signing a two year contract with his boyhood club, Rickie Lambert was nothing but confident smiles.
“I have always dreamt of playing for Liverpool, but I did kind of think the chance of playing for them had gone” the 32-year old said after putting pen to paper. “I didn’t think the chance would come.” To be fair, few of us saw the chance coming as well.
With an impressive 13-league goals and 10-assists earning him a call into Roy Hodgson’s England squad, Lambert has certainly put up the numbers to warrant interest from Reds boss Brendan Rodgers. With the Northern Irishman looking for different options ahead of what’s sure to be a grueling season of new challenges, a deal worth £4mil was a no-brainer — not only do we get a player that will bring an entirely different dimension to our attack, but we have another one that loves the club with the same fierce passion that we do.
“I know how big Liverpool are – and it means everything to me – but I know what is important; I know it’s what I do on the pitch and the minutes I play” he continued. “I know that’s what matters, and that’s what I’ll be focused on.”
Welcome back, Rickie.
