Alberto Moreno To Liverpool a Done Deal? For Real This Time?

Second verse same as the first

For the hundreth time this month, the Spanish press are reporting that Sevilla fullback, and prime Liverpool target, Alberto Moreno has agreed to terms with the Reds ahead of a move to Merseyside.

The deal, which has seen a wildly fluctuating price and has at various stages included all kinds of add-ons and players moving in the other direction either on loan or permanently, looks set to be completed in the next day or two with the promising 21-year old set to be unveiled by the club, along with various awkward of pictures of him around Melwood, as early as Tuesday — or, if we’re going to stay par for this increasing frustrating course, as late as…oh, I don’t know, the end of August?

At this point, it seems more a matter of when than if; Sevilla’s president has confirmed the Reds interest in signing Moreno and the player himself, in a show of loyalty to the Andalusian outfit, has expounded on his happiness in Spain and said he’d be content to stay put with the Europa League winners, but, of course, it’s pretty obvious that isn’t going to happen and that the La Liga side will be quite a bit better off financially in the near future. Just how better off though is open for debate.

With a fee stretching from anywhere between £16mil and £22mil, the fullback is looking like a significant investment by the Merseyside club. Signing up young, promising players before their fees balloon — like Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can — has been the modus operandi of Fenway Sports Group since taking control at Anfield just under five years ago, but for a young, relatively unproven player, even on the low end, this is a lot of money to be shelling out.

So, if Sevilla want to sell, Liverpool want to buy, and Moreno is ready to move, then hopefully this can all be sorted out shortly — that way we can get rid of this giant grain of salt we’ve had to take everything with.
