Liverpool in the Dark over Marco Reus Reports

Marco keeps his ears open

It’s time to play most ridiculous rumour of the day and that, of course, comes in the form of Liverpool’s reported interest in Borussia Dortmund attacker Marco Reus.

With the £75mil they received from Barcelona for the embattled attacker Luis Suarez burning a hole in their pocket, the Reds have been linked with a big money move for the German goal-getter with an arbitrary fee of £45mil doing the rounds earlier today. Although a move for the 25-year old would go a long way towards adding the kind of quality that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has talked about injecting into the squad, according to respected journalist and all-around reliable source Tony Barrett, the club is just as baffled to be linked with the player as the rest of us are to hear about it.

After finishing runners-up to Manchester City last season, the Reds have secured Champions League football for the first time since 2009 and Rodgers has been hastily making preparations for the increased workload next season. The additions of Southampton duo Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana have both been made with an eye to fulfilling European obligations, but the sale of Suarez gives him a logistical problem that will either require the squad to be reshaped or a direct replacement to come in.

Liverpool haven’t been shy in their attempts to bring in a marquee player with a big-money move for former Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa lodged last summer. Reus, who scored 21 goals in 41 appearances for the German giants last season, could be more than a decent stand-in for the Uruguayan, but with Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc saying that he can “definitely rule out a transfer” for him this summer, it’s unlikely that the highly rated forward will be making the move to Merseyside — that, and, you know, the club aren’t even looking at signing him at this point.

Reus would be the perfect option and we should make him a priority signing. He was aparently fuming that Barca went for Suarez after leading him to believe they were going to sign him so he must be available for the right price(has a buyout clause which activates next year for 35mil euro so offer 60mil euro now).instead of going for the likes of Jay Rodriguez,Salomon Kalou and Remy.We need a big name signing.Just look at the players the other teams around us are going for Fabregas Costa Sanchez. We are not going for top drawer players and everyone we have got so far would of came without champs league.Quality over quantity JFT96 YNWA

If he is unlikely to leave then why was he preped to go to the Mancs (his own words) who are not even in the CL? Unless he is a massive manU fan dont we have more to offer?

It was the sporting director that said he wasn’t for sale — obviously they have a difference of opinion!

If Rodgers can work a miracle (like he did with the likes of Sturridge and Coutinho) with a player of a so called lesser prestige, then I’m all for it.

Honestly, Reus would be a boss signing, but he’ll carry quite a bite of expectation along with a massive price tag. We’ll see what happens…
